The duties and responsibilities of the medical office Triage RN include:

Maintains compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
Demonstrates competence in patient care skills within the scope of practice for the Registered Nurse.

Under the Direct supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager , the telephone triage RN, will perform nursing assessments, collaborate with staff and providers , and provide quality patient care in compliance with local, state and federal regulation standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1.) Monitors and responds to triage calls on the telephone between the hours of 0830 - 1730. 2.) Perform patient assessments over the telephone and provides the proper treatment plan utilizing the established “Telephone Triage Protocol” book. 3.) Utilizes EHR (EPIC) to document clinical decision-making. 4.) Schedules patients for provider visits. 5.) Provides accurate information to home health care agencies, healthcare organizations and pharmacies. 6.) Works the prescription refill in basket. 7.) Works both incoming calls and out bound calls.  8.) Serves as a daily resource & provides guidance to the other nurses in the message center. 9.) Works the Prior Authorization in basket as needed. 10.) Takes part in the emergency plan of the practice. 11. Maintains compliance with established safety and regulatory guidelines, including HIPAA, OSHA, and infection prevention policies and procedure.

12.)  Participates in unit based performance improvement activities.
Demonstrates good customer service skills when interacting with patients, families, and visitors. 
 13.) Exhibits effective communication and team work.



Diploma, Associate Degree (ADN) or Bachelors Degree (BSN) from an accredited school of Nursing.

Current NC RN License required

Current BCLS required

Minimum of three years’ experience in direct patient care, preferably in an ambulatory care setting highly preferred.
