Responsibilities

Job Summary:
Provides education, consultation, and support related to occupational health and infection prevention. Responsible for compliance and regulatory guidelines, including OSHA, CDC, and the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services. Works collaboratively with other departments to promote patient safety and QI initiatives. This position will support multiple practices within the network requiring extensive travel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provides occupational health and infection prevention expertise and support for all UNCPN practices.
Ensures compliance with infection prevention and occupational health policies and procedures.
Coordinates services with infection prevention and occupational health vendors. Evaluates, administers or coordinates treatment, and participates in the management of reported communicable diseases and occupational injuries or illnesses under the supervision of the Clinical Services Director and Associate Medical Directors.
Investigates disease outbreaks in the employee population and provides follow up of employee exposure to disease, blood and body fluids, and hazardous substances. Maintains required databases and complies with all regulatory reporting requirements.
Works in conjunction with the Clinical Services Director, Associate Medical Directors, and Human Resources to establish organizational goals, and maintain policies and procedures in compliance with current professional standards and regulatory guidelines.
Completes an annual review of infection prevention and occupational health policies and procedures, identifies educational opportunities, and develops and presents training programs to a varied audience of healthcare professionals.
Maintains current knowledge, skills, and certifications.
Participates in development of quality improvement and safety initiatives.
Works in conjunction with Clinical Services Director, Associate Medical Directors and Quality Improvment Department to develop a comprehensive QI program for UNCPN.
Participates in UNCPN Support Rounds. Serves as a resource on work place safety, infection prevention, and the development of unit based quality improvement initiatives.
Ensures compliance with established safety and regulatory guidelines, including HIPAA, OSHA, and infection prevention policies and procedures.
This position will support multiple practices within the network requiring extensive travel.

Qualifications

Required Preferred / Desired Experience Education

3 -5 years of clinical experience in a hospital or ambulatory setting.
Occupational health nursing experience desirable.
Epidemiology/ Infection Prevention, toxicology, industrial
and environmental hygiene experience preferred.
Experience with safety and risk management issues to include Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, CDC, Workers' Comp, ADA and FMLA.

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Registered Nurse with current NC License
Valid NC Drivers license
